Such a simple product, but it adds a huge quality-of-life improvement to my truck. I really love these and have already recommended them to friends with trucks. The build quality is great, and installation is quick and easy, even though the instructions are a little confusing. Overall, a very worthwhile upgrade.

Perfect addition for my Tacoma. Works as it should. Installation isn’t very difficult, but I have to take the tailgate off to get to a bolt you have to remove. Love it.

Installed easily with the right tools although needed to buy a washer to accommodate the gap and for the lanyard to be able to rotate from open to close! Other than that it makes the tail gate easier to open and not slam down due to weight! It opens slowly and smoothly.

Once you have it installed this is a great shock assist for your tailgate. I installed it on my 2026 Tacoma. I would highly recommend removing the tailgate to get to the one hex screw you need to remove and replace with the adapter included with the shock. You need a T-40 hex head for this and it’s almost impossible getting a straight line to this bottom hinge screw due to the truck’s rear frame. You are more likely to strip this screw which was factory installed with lock tight and will end up having to remove the tailgate anyway (yes, I’m speaking from experience).Removing the tailgate is fairly simple. You first disconnect the two plugs for your backup camera. The smaller plug has two clips you push in to remove. The larger plug has a small lever you turn the opposite way and pull the plug straight out. This requires a little effort but if you wiggle it and pull it will come off. I taped over the openings and plug ends after I disconnected them to keep dirt from entering and to help protect them.Loosen the tab that runs through the frame of the truck bed but do not pull the camera plugs through until you’re ready to remove the tailgate. There are videos for this procedure on YouTube. Follow them and once you’ve removed the troublesome screw reverse the procedure to get everything back in place. The backup camera doesn’t need recalibration. It works automatically once you plug in both connections. You will install the shock assist on the driver’s side of your tailgate and be sure to reverse the tailgate cable as well (clip end connects to the actual tailgate) on that side as well. It works great once it’s all in place!
